Liz and Jay Scott

Liz and Jay Scott are the Vice President of Outreach and Communications, and Executive Director, respectively, of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer - but they were parents first. When their daughter Alexandra “Alex” Scott decided to hold a lemonade stand to help doctors find new treatments and ultimately a cure for all childhood cancers, including her own, Jay and Liz supported Alex’s mission every step of the way. Along with helping Alex host her yearly lemonade stands, they also made appearances, helped plan fundraising events, and perhaps most importantly, now continue Alex’s legacy of hope after cancer ultimately took her life in 2004. What started as the vision of one little girl has been embraced by a nation of volunteers.

Along with their three sons, Patrick, Eddie and Joey, Liz and Jay continue their promise to Alex and all children with cancer, the promise of hope for a cure.

Bookkeeper
email: Kim@AlexsLemonade.org

Kim BowersKim Bowers came to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation by chance. After working as a full-time bookkeeper for many years, Kim decided to become a stay at home mom after having her third child. Kim enjoyed her time at home for over three years, but in 2007 decided it was time to get back into the work force. In search of the right environment to jump back in, Kim saw an ad in the local paper for a bookkeeper at Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. After interviewing with Liz and Jay Scott, she immediately knew ALSF was the perfect fit and was hired shortly after.

David Brownstein
Sponsor Relations & Special Events Manager
email: David@AlexsLemonade.org

David BrownsteinDavid Brownstein became a part of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation through his involvement with Dance Marathon at Penn State University, a dance competition held every year to benefit the Four Diamonds Fund. Though he never met Alex, David discovered first hand the impact her life had on others. While driving children home from summer camp in 2004, the news of Alex’s passing came across the radio waves and David noticed the children were shaken. After sending an email to Alex’s parents detailing the impression their daughter had on these children, David thought the Dance Marathon was the perfect place for Liz and Jay to share their story. David invited them to speak, and the Scott’s were so impressed by his work that they approached him to come on board at the Foundation. David utilizes his non-profit experience to spearhead events and assist with development at the Foundation.

Cynthia Ellis
Donor Services
email: Cynthia@AlexsLemonade.org

Cynthia EllisCynthia Ellis always admired the Scott’s. As a parent living in the same neighborhood and with children attending the same school, Cynthia felt the impact and inspiration of Alex Scott on a personal level. After Alex passed away in 2004, Cynthia began volunteering at the Foundation, filing thousands of cards, letters and photos in her basement. When Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation moved into their first office space, she continued to volunteer and was one day placed in front of a computer and asked to enter data. Since that time Cynthia has enjoyed working at Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation full time, humbled every day by the journeys of children who have been touched by childhood cancer, the dedicated volunteers and donors who surround the cause. Cynthia looks forward to coming to work every Monday.

Thus begun the search for a new job she hoped would better suit her lifestyle while allowing her to continue her passion for non-profit causes. After what seemed like an eternity of searching, Nichole discovered a posting for a data entry professional at Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in Wynnewood, a mere ten minutes away from home. She applied immediately. Nichole interviewed with Jay and Liz Scott and was offered the position the same day, gratefully accepting. Nichole enjoys coming to work everyday and relished the fact that she is able to contribute to such a great cause.

Melissa Jones
Social Media Specialist
email: Melissa@AlexsLemonade.org

Melissa Jones first became aware of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer in the Fall of 2008. Melissa was researching non-profit organizations for one of her college classes, and came upon the foundation. It didn’t take long for her to be inspired by the story Alexandra “Alex” Scott and the mission of the foundation bearing her name. Melissa decided to utilize her spare time to help the organization, and soon became a full-time volunteer. Having an interest in the emerging world of social media and a strong desire to be a part of the Foundation, Melissa happily accepted a summer internship to promote ALSF online. Following the very successful internship, she was offered a full-time position, which she accepted without any hesitation. Melissa says that she couldn’t think of a better way to spend her time each day than by working toward Alex’s dream of one day finding a cure for all children with cancer.

After watching the Triple Crown series featuring Afleet Alex in 2005, Gillian became familiar with the vision and mission of ALSF, always keeping the connection in the back of her mind. When the time came to move on from the public relations job she had held for four years in New York City, Gillian immediately thought of ALSF.
